2015 PORTLAND INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY

 BRACKET RACING NEWS

Welcome to the unofficial (but pretty much official) Portland International Raceway Bracket Racing site!

Now in our 15th season of providing PIR Bracket Racing news and information!

The focus of this site will remain as it has been for the past fifteen years – as a source to keep you updated on the Bracket Racing program at PIR. I'll leave the street legal races, import races, etc. up to someone else.  While this remains a volunteer deal, as with all previous seasons, I’ll do my best to post the race results and current point standings within 24 hours of receiving them.  I will also continue to submit the weekly race results to National Dragster.

If you have any information, news, comments or concerns regarding Bracket Racing at Portland International Raceway that you would like to have posted here, just send an e-mail to:

Greg Rollin

(greg@supercarsunlimited.com)

Note to those who are new here.  The italicized and quoted word(s) in the updates are the weekly Booster Club bonus 50/50 ticket words.  When the Booster Club volunteers come around selling 50/50 tickets, work that word into a sentence and receive a bonus ticket!

DECEMBER 1, 2015

Your votes count!  When you have a moment, please check out the Special Award Nominations Ballot at the NHRA Division 6 website.  When you scroll down to the ET Bracket Driver of the Year category, you will find a certain Pro Bracket driver who won two track championships in 2015 - and I think most will agree, definitely deserves the award!  Please do so today as it’s the last day to do so.

Another Portland racer, Rochelle Robnett has submitted a video in the Champion Spark Plugs “Search For A Champion” contest.  While the public vote doesn’t begin until January 5, 2016, you can get a sneak peek of her video and bio HERE.

NOVEMBER 24, 2015

PIR Fall Swap Meet- October 17th and 18th

By Sandra Bauer

PIR gears up for the Fall Auto Swap Meet

The 4th annual PIR. Fall Auto Swap Meet will feature more than 300 vendor stalls. The event will take place in the south paddock  October 17 & 18 from
7am to 5pm daily. Admission is $5 per day; free for children under the age of 12. Parking is $10 per day.

The event offers a complimentary parts pick-up area that stores purchased items for the day, allowing consumers to secure a way to retrieve them; as well as a "haul and go" delivery system that transports purchases directly to consumer's vehicles, provided they are parked in the PIR parking lot. This donation-based service raises funds for the Community Transitional School (CTS), a Portland-based organization that provides educational services to area homeless children; the event has donated more than $72,000 to CTS since beginning the program.

Vendor stalls are still available should you want to participate as a vendor - just contact Sandy at Twobauers@msn.com or 503-307-5420.

OCTOBER 5, 2015

The Bob Comeau King of The Track Series final is this Wednesday night!  Big bucks and a Wally on the line!  I’ll post the final qualifying points standings just as soon as I receive them.  As noted earlier, even if you didn’t qualify for the “Bob Comeau” KOTT Series final, there will be a Cash Bash that will be open to anyone (first round KOTT losers can also buy in).  With some additional bonus money being provided by Tabor’s Automotive Machine, Schroeder Racing, S&J Automotive and KG Racing, the Cash Bash race will pay down to the semis.  Even if you aren’t racing, I would highly encourage you to come out to watch – it should be an exciting night!  Hope to see you there!

OCTOBER 2, 2015

In case anybody saw the picture in the current National Dragster (Sept 25) and were wondering – even as amazing as I am, no, I am not able to drive and shoot pictures from the staring line at the same time!  I have no idea why they credited me for the picture (as well as the one of Greg and Pat), but just to be clear, both photo credits go to Carol Brown!

SEPTEMBER 29, 2015

The final qualifying race for the 2015 Bob Comeau Memorial King Of The Track series will be sponsored by D&E Auto Care and the NWDRA.  The Second Chance bracket will be sponsored by Tabor’s Automotive Machine and Schroeder Racing.  The KOTT final will be run next Wednesday (Oct. 7).  If you didn’t qualify for the final, note there will be a Cash Bash that night (1st round losers in the KOTT can buy in).   Even if you’re not racing that night, I would recommend bringing a “fire jacket” with you as things are going to get hot!

SEPTEMBER 17, 2015

Just a reminder to any team members who haven’t emailed Ken Green or called Lettie (503-644-5707), to please do so asap (the deadline is Friday Sept. 18).  Due to the rain out on the 16th, all sponsor bonus payouts will carry over to the 23rd (thanks again to Odyssey Batteries / Scott Sayre, the NWDRA, Tabor’s Automotive Machine and Schroeder Racing!).  When the 50/50 crew come around on the 23rd, you’ll be sure to want to have a quick chat about “seat belts”.

SEPTEMBER 11, 2015

For those who went to the Finals, be sure to check out PIR photographer Jerry Roseburrough’s

site for pictures!

Thanks to Carol Brown for the poster!

Since Jerry wasn’t able to stay for the whole event, if anybody has any winners circle

shots they’d like to share, send ‘em to me.  Photo credit will (of course) be given!

This Wednesday’s winners will receive a bonus payout from Odyssey Batteries / Scott Sayre and the NWDRA will be providing a bonus payout to the runner ups.  Tabor’s Automotive Machine will once again be paying a bonus to the winner in Second Chance with Schroeder Racing rewarding the runner up.  Speaking of bonuses, when the Booster Club people come around, for a bonus ticket, you’ll want to work the word “helmet” into the conversation.

SEPTEMBER 9, 2015

The winners of tonight’s race will receive a bonus payout from D&E Auto Care and the runner ups will receive a bonus payout from the NWDRA!  The second chance winner will receive a bonus from Tabor’s Automotive Machine and the runner up a bonus from Schroeder Racing!

When Lettie and crew come around tonight for the 50/50 drawing, be sure to let them know who the 2015 Division 6 Sportsman and Jr. Dragster Thunder champions are!

SEPTEMBER 1, 2015

As some of you have noticed, I’ve been wearing an eye patch lately.  And as some of you have (correctly) figured, the Myasthenia Gravis has reared its ugly head again.  At this point it is still ocular (eyes) only.  We are trying some different treatments that will hopefully keep the disease from progressing to the point which it had previously – which had basically put me in a quadriplegic state.  I probably won’t see any results from the new treatment for at least a couple more weeks.  At that point, I may be better or I may be worse.  Obviously with this uncertainty, going to Boise is out of the question for me.  But with fingers crossed, they’ll have me back to ‘normal’ soon.

Good luck my friends, I wish I could be joining you!

AUGUST 31, 2015

Last Saturday night was to have been the running of the Perfect Light race, but evidently Mother Nature had other plans for us.  31 of the 41 racers who cut a perfect light during the 2015 season were on hand to try to win part of the $1000 put up by Gresham Transmission.  Due to the rainout, names were drawn for payouts – in the end it was Cameron Loos who took home the $500 winners check.  As cool as this deal was anyway, none of us went home empty handed as there was a cash bonus from Gresham Transmission given to everyone who qualified (and wore their t-shirt – ahem, Gary Ericksen).  A huge thanks to Harry Cole and John Floyd, Jr. of Gresham Transmission – the perfect light t-shirts awarded during the season are cool, but this special race and the payout is very much appreciated!  If anyone needs transmission work, please remember those who support us!

AUGUST 25, 2015

If you earned a Perfect Light t-shirt this season, don’t forget the special race is this Saturday night!

A huge thanks goes out to Gresham Transmission for providing the t-shirts for the past few seasons, and now for this special big payout race!  If you have any questions, please contact Harry Cole or John Floyd, Jr. at 503-669-1555 or email: greshamtransmission@yahoo.com

AUGUST 24, 2015

The first race of the King of The Track series starts this Wednesday (Aug 26).  Our sponsor for the winners is Odyssey Batteries / Scott Sayre.  Please keep Scott and his company SS Specialties in mind when you need batteries for any of your vehicles.  The NWDRA will once again be paying a bonus to the runner ups and once again, we have Tabor’s Automotive Machine to thank for the bonus payout to the winners in Second Chance and Schroeder Racing for the bonus to the runner up!  Remember there will be a Team Meeting at the base of the tower following “time trials”.

Please note today is the last day for room reservations for Boise.  If you haven’t already made plans, call the motel now!  (208-887-3600 Hampton Inn – Meridian, ID).

If you have questions regarding the Finals, here are a couple of contact numbers:

Lettie: 503-644-5707

Pete and Cindy: 503-626-0579

AUGUST 21, 2015

The final 2015 regular season points standings have been posted.  But as you can see, there are at least a couple of runoffs that will need to be held before the list is completely finalized (Track Champion in Motorcycle for example – gee, no pressure there!).  I’ll post the final standings as soon as I receive them.

Remember, there is a (mandatory) Team Meeting next Wednesday night (Aug 26) at the base of the tower at 7:00ish.

AUGUST 18, 2015

The winners of our last (regular season) points race will receive a bonus payout from Steve’s Precision Machine and the runner ups will receive a bonus from the NWDRA!  Tabors Automotive Machine will once again be providing a bonus to the winner of the Second Chance bracket and Schroeder Racing will be providing a bonus to the runner up!  Just a friendly reminder to all racers to make sure their “dial in” legible – remember, it is your responsibility to check the boards for the correct dial in before staging.

AUGUST 10, 2015

This Wednesday will be the fourth and final Big Bucks Wednesday Race for the 2015 season. A huge thanks goes out to Dietrich Family Racing and S&T Truck Repair for the bonus payouts to the winner, runner up and semi finalists in Super/Pro, Pro and Sportsman and to Hazel Dell Muffler, Krippner Painting, Columbia Pest Control and NW Metals for the bonus payout in Motorcycle!  For a flier with the bonus payout breakdowns, click HERE.  As usual, the winner in Second Chance will receive a bonus payout compliments of Tabor’s Automotive Machine and the runner up will receive a bonus from Schroeder Racing!  Just a reminder, with it getting darker a little sooner these days, make certain you have at least one functioning “taillight”.

AUGUST 4, 2015

Thanks to Carol Brown for the (excellent as usual) memorial poster.

I’ll post any info regarding a celebration of life as soon as I hear something.

AUGUST 3, 2015

While we are waiting for Division 6 to post the 2015 Northwest Division Championship Guidelines, I would encourage all racers going to the Finals to check out the contingency information.  NHRA usually has many (but not all) contingency stickers available at the event, so it would be wise to contact the appropriate manufactures as soon as possible for the proper stickers.

This Wednesday night the winners in S/P, Pro, Sportsman and Motorcycle have Tabor Family Racing to thank for the bonus payout and the runner ups will have the NWDRA to thank for their bonus payouts!  The winner in Second Chance will once again receive a bonus from Tabor’s Automotive Machine and the runner up, a bonus from Schroeder Racing! Just to be clear though, in the odd event of a “single” in the final, you don’t get to collect both payouts!

JULY 27, 2015

Thanks to B&J Excavating (Bill and Joetta Heard), there will be a bonus payout to the winners in S/P, Pro, Sportsman and Motorcycle and thanks to the NWDRA, the runner ups will also receive a bonus payout!  Tabor’s Automotive Machine will once again be paying a bonus to the winner in Second Chance and Schroeder Racing to the runner up!  With the weather returning to the mid 90’s on Wednesday, make sure your “radiator” is ready for it!

JULY 21, 2015

This week’s bonus payout sponsors are Steve’s Precision Machine to the winners in S/P, Pro, Sportsman and Motorcycle.  Cruisin’ The Gut will be providing the bonus to the runner ups (thanks for the bonus payouts last week as well!).  Perhaps this bonus payout will help toward a new pair of “slicks”.

JULY 20, 2015

It is with great sadness that I report the passing of Mike Francis.  As some of you may know, Mike had been diagnosed with an incurable lung disease.  He passed on the 9th of this month.

I always enjoyed racing with Mike – he always had a smile and a great attitude – you could tell that he really loved racing.  It was especially nice to see him at the track a few weeks ago.  It saddens me to know that was the last time.  His obituary can be seen HERE – I will post any information regarding a celebration of life as soon as I hear of anything.

The only pic I have is this one from several years ago – hopefully Carol can put together one of her

great photo compilations.

JULY 13, 2015

Just a reminder – please make sure you completely fill out your “tech card” each week.  Yes, the italicized and quote marked word(s) indicate that is the word of the week, but it is a serious request.  Pete needs the info, Lettie needs the info and I need the info, so please fill out your card!

Thanks to Harry Cole and John Floyd, Jr., Gresham Transmission will be providing a bonus payout to this week’s winners in S/P, Pro, Sportsman and Motorcycle, the NWDRA will be providing a bonus to the runner ups!  And thanks again to Tabors Automotive Machine and to Schroeder Racing for the additional payout to the winner and runner up in the Second Chance bracket.

JULY 3, 2015

Team race motel information.  Team Portland’s official motel for the ET Finals will be the Hampton Inn & Suites in Meridian, ID (208-887-3600).  To get the best rate, a block of rooms has been set aside for both Portland and Woodburn.  When calling to make your reservations, you will need to tell them you are part of the Portland/Woodburn group.  It is suggested that you make your reservations as soon as possible.  If you have any questions, feel free to give Lettie a call (503-644-5707).  More Team Race info to come.

This coming Wednesday is the second Wednesday of the month which of course means it’s a Big Bucks Wednesday!  Thanks again to Dietrich Family Racing and S&T Truck Repair for the bonus payouts to the winner, runner up and semi finalists in Super/Pro, Pro and Sportsman and to Hazel Dell Muffler, Krippner Painting, Columbia Pest Control and NW Metals for the bonus payout in Motorcycle!  For a flier with the bonus payout breakdowns, click HERE.   Break out that practice tree and work on your “reaction time” and perhaps you can bring home some Big Bucks!

JUNE 30, 2015

I have some sad news to report – our long time (30+ years) main man at the front gate, John Garner passed away this last Saturday.  Of all the different events I’ve been to over the years at PIR, John always had a smile – which Carol Brown captured so perfectly in this shot from 2011.

“Racing or watching?”

Service information for John.

Viewing: Wednesday, July 1, 1:00 - 4:00 pm.

Service: Thursday, July 2, 2:00 pm

Both at Hustad Funeral Home 7232 N. Richmond Ave in Portland.

Tomorrow’s “Wally” race is being sponsored by Bud’s Auto Wrecking (Brian Overturf) for the first place winners ($25.00 bonus) and by the NWDRA ($25.00 bonus) for the runner ups.  Tabor’s Automotive Machine will once again be paying a bonus $25.00 to the winner in Second Chance with Schroeder Racing providing the bonus $25.00 to the runner up!

Thanks to Murcad Racing (Susan Murphy and Gordon Cady, Jr.), there will be a $25 bonus paid to the winners in S/P, Pro, Sportsman and Motorcycle this week - The NWDRA will once again be providing a $25 bonus to the runner ups!  Tabors Automotive Machine is continuing their sponsorship of the Second Chance bracket by paying a $25 bonus to the winner and Schroeder Racing will be paying a $25 bonus to the runner up!  Thank you all for your support!

Just a reminder:  sound levels are monitored on every pass – it is up to you to make sure your “mufflers” are in working order and your car or bike does not exceed the 103db limit at 50 feet.

JUNE 15, 2015

Our sponsor for the winners on Wednesday June 17 will be Odyssey Batteries / Scott Sayre.  Please keep Scott and his company SS Specialties in mind when you need batteries for any of your vehicles.  The NWDRA will once again be paying a bonus to the runner ups!  And once again, we have Tabor’s Automotive Machine to thank for the bonus payout to the winners in Second Chance and Schroeder Racing for the bonus to the runner up!  If you’ve been wondering who our new “time slip” person is, her name is Cathy and she is the wife of Gary who handles the water box duties.

JUNE 10, 2015

Just to clarify, tonight IS a Big Bucks Wednesday.  There is/was an error on the official schedule which I in turn posted on the schedule here.  The date for this race (and the July Big Bucks Race) have been corrected on the schedule page.  I apologize for any confusion.

JUNE 8, 2015

The second Wednesday of the month means it’s time for another Big Bucks Wednesday! And thanks again to Tabor Automotive and Machine for the $25 bonus payout to the winner in the Second Chance bracket and to Schroeder Racing the $25 bonus to the runner up!  As with every Wednesday night, thanks goes to Gresham “Transmission” for the perfect light T-Shirts.  If you cut a perfect light, just take your time slip to the tower for your free T-Shirt!

JUNE 2, 2015

Some have been wondering what the deal with the pull tabs is all about.  Directly from the man, here’s the story:

Collecting beverage can (any can) pull tabs for Portland Legacy Emanuel Ronald McDonald House.   The money raised helps fund families stay while their children are receiving medical treatment here in Portland.    Turn your tabs in to Cliff Waldron (No Taxi) in the pits or take them to the tower and leave with Cindy.   For additional info or questions contact Cliff Waldron 503-789-5167.

JUNE 1, 2015

This week’s winners in S/P, Pro, Sportsman and Motorcycle will receive a $25.00 bonus from KG Racing (Ken Green) and the runner ups will receive a $25.00 bonus from the NWDRA!  Second Chance winners will receive a $25.00 bonus from Tabor’s Automotive Machine and the runner ups will receive a $25.00 bonus from Schroeder Racing!   Along the lines of Second Chance, if you lose in first round or second round, you may now buy into the Second Chance bracket.  As long as time permits (no “oil” downs, etc.), this will be an ongoing option.

May 26, 2015

I’m sure many of you have been wondering where our long time starter Jim Vaughn has been lately.  Jim has been undergoing cancer treatment – the good news is the treatment has been working very well!  He really misses everybody and being out there.  Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.  Hopefully we’ll see him back out soon.  I know he would really appreciate hearing from anyone in his racing family.  Feel free to call him at 503-975-6590.

May 26, 2015

We have D&E Auto Care to thank this week for a $25.00 bonus payout to the winners in S/P, Pro, Sportsman and Motorcycle and the NWDRA to thank for a $25.00 bonus to the runner ups!  Tabor’s Automotive Machine will once again be paying a bonus to the winners in Second Chance and Schroeder Racing to the runner ups.  Thank you all for your support!   Don’t “red light” - Perfect Light Race details coming soon!

May 19, 2015

We can thank Dietrich Family Racing once again this Wednesday night for being the weekly sponsor for the winners, and to the NWDRA for providing a bonus payout to the runner ups! Tabor’s Automotive Machine will be paying a bonus to the winner in Second Chance and Schroeder Racing a bonus to the runner up!  This week’s 50/50 bonus word is “ladder”.

May 11, 2015

This Wednesday is the second Big Bucks Race of the 2015 season!  Thanks to Dietrich Family Racing and S&T Truck Repair, there will be a bonus payout to the winners, runner ups and semi finalists in S/P, Pro and Sportsman.  Motorcycle winner, runner up and semi finalists will receive a bonus payout from Hazel Dell Muffler, Krippner Painting, Columbia Pest Control and NW Metals!  See the Flier for more class details.  Once again there will be a $25.00 bonus paid to the winner in the Second Chance Bracket thanks to Tabor’s Automotive Machine Shop and to the runner up thanks to Schroeder Racing!

The Booster Club has a new (additional) 50/50 drawing – the new “Annual 50-50” is a $5.00 per ticket, season long contest with the winner being drawn on August 19, 2015.  Just like the regular 50/50 drawing, it is open to everyone – racers, “spectators”, etc.

May 5, 2015

Thanks to B&J Excavating (Bill Heard), there will be a bonus payout this week to the winners in SP, Pro, Sportsman and Motorcycle – and thanks to the NWDRA, there will be a bonus payout to the runner ups.  The Second Chance (“Lettie’s Losers”) bracket winner will once again receive a bonus payout from Tabor’s Automotive, and Schroeder Racing will be posting a bonus payout to the runner up!  With this extra cash, perhaps we’ll see some longer “burnouts” this week. (Remember, Lettie gives me the weekly word – I just have to try to fit it into a sentence – as should you when the Booster Club people come around.  Who knows, make them laugh and you might receive an additional ticket!).

APRIL 28, 2015

This week’s sponsor is D & E Auto Care in Vancouver.  Remember Dean DeGrande and crew for all your vehicle needs – everything from oil changes to “tune-ups” to major repairs.    D&E will be providing the bonus pay out to the winners and the NWDRA will be providing an additional $25 to each class runner up.  Tabor’s Automotive will once again be paying a $25 bonus to the Second Chance winner and Schroeder Racing will be paying a $25 bonus payout to the runner up!

Due to a lack of numbers, the bus trip planned for Chinook Winds has been cancelled.

APRIL 21, 2015

With several noise warnings being handed out so far this year, this would probably be a good time to remind all racers how critical it is that we comply with the 103 db @50 feet rule.  Some of you might not be aware that the sound microphone (located just past the second grandstand) is "live" 24/7 on the PIR website http://portlandraceway.com/?/about/noise_information.   The meter is being watched very closely by some of the residents in the area - some of which would be very happy if PIR was shut down completely.   Some have been taking screen shots of the meter when it exceeds our allowable limit and forwarding them on to city officials.  This is why it is critical - now more than ever, that all Wednesday night race cars comply with all noise regulations.  If your vehicle is suspect, you will be asked to make a single pass so its noise level can be observed.  If it exceeds the allowable 103 db, you will be given a warning and instructed to make whatever changes are necessary before you bring the vehicle back to the track.  Due to the nature of sound waves, if your car is borderline of passing, several factors can and will come into play - temperature and humidity for example will affect noise levels.  This is why your car might be fine one week, but exceed the limit the next.  If you receive a noise violation warning, there are several things you can do to try to get your car under the limit.  Assuming your mufflers are in good working order and not rusted out, one of the easiest and often most effective things you can do is add a pair of turnouts to your muffler/tailpipe that will divert the noise away from the microphone (and way from the neighborhood).  Cone inserts are another effective means of reducing noise.  Of course a good quality muffler is always the best remedy.  Along those lines, even if your vehicle is capable of running under the 103 db limit, all vehicles are required to have a muffler - straight pipes are not allowed.  If you compete in Super Pro and are using a throttle stop, make sure your car is not coming off the stop where the microphone is located.  If you know your car has been on the edge of pass/fail in the past, I would highly encourage you to take the necessary steps now to make sure it's not going to be an issue for you in the future.  The track is taking this very seriously - as we all should be.  If we want to continue to be able to race at PIR, it is critical that we comply with the noise regulations - it's just that simple. Noise concerns are certainly nothing new for PIR racers - please do your part to keep those who want the track shut down from being able to do so!

Sponsorship for this Wednesday’s race is Odyssey Batteries / Scott Sayre.  Please keep Scott and his company SS Specialties in mind when you need “batteries” for any of your vehicles.  The winner of Second Chance bracket will once again receive an additional bonus from Tabor Automotive and this week the Runner up will receive a bonus payout from Schroeder Racing.

APRIL 13, 2015

This Wednesday night is the first of the 2015 Big Bucks Wednesday races! Thanks to Dietrich Family Racing and S&T Truck Repair for the bonus payouts (Winner, RU and Semi) in Super/Pro, Pro and Sportsman and to Hazel Dell Muffler, Krippner Painting, Columbia Pest Control and NW Metals for the bonus payout in Motorcycle!  For a flier with the bonus “payout” breakdowns, click HERE.   As with all Wednesday nights, thanks goes to Tabor Automotive and Machine for the $25 bonus payout to the winner in the Second Chance bracket.

Gresham Transmission is back again for the 2015 season giving away a free T-shirt to anyone who cuts a perfect light.  Just take your timeslip to the tower to receive your complimentary shirt.  Some fun has been added to the perfect light program this year with a special “Perfect Light” race happening on August 29.  More details to come.

Cliff Waldron is asking everybody once again to save your beverage can pull tabs – more details coming soon.

APRIL 8, 2015

Just a reminder – due to the Swap Meet, there will be no race tonight.

APRIL 1, 2015

I just received and posted the 2015 rules and regulations.  Please see the General Info section.  This is the same info that is on the sheet you will receive when you sign up for points.  Based on the feedback you’ve given to your category representatives, there have been some changes made so please take a few moments to read it in its entirety.

You will notice the sentence “If you race for another team you forfeit track position and yearend awards“ is listed as “under review”.  What we are asking is if for example, somebody wins the track championship at PIR but decides to race for a different track at the Division finals, should they or should they not have their PIR track championship and all that goes along with it taken away.

I’ve always tried to keep my personal opinions to myself on this site, but let just offer this thought.  I think we all know why this issue has come to light so I’m just going to say it.  Jerry earned those two championships.  He earned the right to go down in the history books as being able to proudly make the claim that he won the track championship at two tracks in one season.  In my opinion, this championship forfeiture rule is an antiquated one that needs to be changed.   A decision will be made to change or not change this rule and your input is needed.  Please let your category representative (Greg Rollin: Super/Pro, John Masterman: Pro, Ken Green: Sportsman and Mark Canty: Motorcycle) know your thoughts and opinions before June.

MARCH 31, 2015

Bus trip information from Michelle Fuerstenberg:

Hello Team Portland,

So how is everyone enjoying the start of race season? Along with making sure you and your cars are ready to kick some butt on the track we also need to start some fundraising for the Team Race. This year since it is Boise its going to be more expensive so Lettie and I would love to help make it easier on you guys.

I am planning a Casino bus trip to Chinook Winds this year. It will be Saturday May 9th. I know that is Mothers day weekend but there is no racing that weekend. Plus it would be a great gift for mom, wife or significant other.  This year it will be a little different. Unfortunately we cannot drink on the bus. The casino has had problems in the past so they do not allow it anymore. But that won’t stop the fun. We will still have games and raffles. What I need from you guys is to let me know who is interested in going. I’ll need to know by April 22nd. Remember that this is not for racers only. You can invite friends and family.

I will also need people to donate raffle items and game prizes.  Last year we raised $1000. And that was with only 27 people that went. I would love to double or even triple that amount.  The price for a ticket will be $30.  So what do you say, who’s in? We need a min of 45 people.  Thank you for your support and good luck this race season.

You can call, text or email me with any questions

MARCH 27, 2015

Although there is no Booster Club word for the March 29th race, the secret word returns next Wednesday night (April 1).  Be sure to mention to the Booster Club volunteers how much you appreciate Scott Sayre and OdysseyBatteries” for providing an additional $25.00 bonus payout to the winners in S/P, Pro, Sportsman and Motorcycle.  Please keep Scott and his company SS Specialties in mind when you are in need of a battery for your race or street car, truck or motorcycle.

Fresh new look for 2015, the bridge has been re-skinned and repainted.

Built in 1985, the bridge was initially sponsored by B.F. Goodrich, two years later by Good Year, then Bridgestone, followed by Bi-Mart and finally by Jeld Wen.   Contrary to what you may have seen or read on Facebook, the bridge is currently unsponsored.

FEBRUARY 17, 2015

Some sad news to report.  Former PIR Drag Racing manager, PIR racer and longtime PIR supporter Steve Denbo passed away last night.  I’ll pass along any service / memorial information just as soon as I hear.

Woo-Hoo!  The race season starts today (well, if this were 1978 that is)!

FEBRUARY 4, 2015

Some good news from Jake Vandehey regarding the fire.  Jake writes:

“We're still cleaning up Don's garage, which he is still heart broken about losing, but luckily his son Scott found him a couple of scrap bikes for parts, and a good friend of my Dad Jay's gave us an engine, so it looks like if things go right and we build them fast enough, that we can get them both out on the track this race season. Plus we got some goo news from the insurance company, it looks like they're going to reimburse Don for all of his drag bike engines and possibly replace some CP-Carrillo rods for their bikes, so things are back on track again. Anyways I just wanted to let you and the rest of the PIR family know what is happening, have a good one”.

-Jake

Thanks for the update Jake, glad things are looking up!

First let me take this opportunity to wish everybody a Happy New Year!

Amazing as it seems, but 2015 marks the 15th season of this site!

I’m sorry I wasn’t able to attend the banquet this year to receive them in person, but thank you all for the gift cards!

I’ll be posting some pictures from the banquet in the next day or so.
