BRACKET RACING NEWS
Welcome to the unofficial (but pretty much official)
The focus of this site will remain as it has been for the past thirteen years – as a source to keep you updated on the Bracket Racing program at PIR. I'll leave the street legal races, import races, etc. up to someone else. While this remains a volunteer deal, as with all previous seasons, I’ll do my best to post the race results and current point standings within 24 hours of receiving them. I will also continue to submit the weekly race results to National Dragster.
If you have any information, news, comments or concerns regarding Bracket Racing at Portland International Raceway that you would like to have posted here, just send an e-mail to:
Sorry about all the messed up links toward the bottom of this page – I have no idea what happened or caused the issue. I’ll work on correcting it all as I have time. What a mess…..

Shhhhhh….. Don’t tell Lettie, but Dawn Detrich and Vicki Comeau have come up with a way
to thank Lettie for all of her hard work and dedication to Team PIR. This Sunday at the
awards banquet, they will present her with a sterling silver “Wally” necklace, a gift card
and a box of candy. If you would like to help contribute toward these gifts for our
hard working team captain, please see the Dietrich’s or Comeau’s at the banquet.
Kyle Comeau Toy and Canned
As you all know he was and will always be considered a child at heart the boy who never wanted to age or "grow up" so it only seems appropriate that we run a toy drive for local kids in need in his name, seeing as even up till his death you had to up your back into prying him away from his Legos.. The donations are any unwrapped new toy OR canned food. I spoke directly to the chair of this foundation, this year they are providing toys and Christmas dinner for 700 FAMILIES! Lets show them the spirit of Christmas like Kyle would, after all it was one of his favorite days!
Those wishing to donate can bring them to the PIR banquet or
(until Dec. 11) directly to the Comeau “compound”.
The 2013 PIR awards banquet will be held on Sunday December 8th at the Portland Airport Shilo Inn.
Click HERE for a reservation form (pdf format). If you need it in a different format (Word, etc.), just let
me know. Please note the reservation deadline is November 28.

Now that I’ve got most of that Spokane dirt and dust cleaned out of my car and equipment, let me just take a moment to say that even though Team PIR ended up finishing lower than we had all hoped we would, I’m proud of all my teammates for giving it their all! We’ll get ‘em next year at Woodburn. Speaking of Woodburn, congrats to Dave Sattem for winning the Super Pro final on Sunday and to Jerry Durant, Jr. for his win in Sportsman! And speaking of other teams, as always, it was nice to see and talk with so many of the friends I’ve made over the years at the Finals. And along those lines, perhaps my favorite aspect of the whole team race is the camaraderie between Team PIR racers, their family and friends. It was nice chatting with so many of you as well! While we did have a bit of a scare on Sunday, I’m happy to report Phil Lang is (for the most part) okay after a top end accident on his bike. Glad you’re okay, Phil. If anybody has a race report or anything they would like me to post regarding the Team Race / Division Finals, just let me know.
Okay, I have no idea what happened to this page regarding all the weirdness with all the links.
No time to figure it out and try to fix it right now though…...
The competitor parking map is now posted on Spokane’s website – click here for a direct link.
In addition to the traditional team race dinner on Friday night, Tony Schroeder will be providing
fajitas for a Mexican themed dinner on Saturday night. All team members and family are welcome.
If you would like to bring anything to add (beans, cheese, etc.), that would be great! If you have
any questions for Tony, his cell number is 503-939-5108.
From Ken and the Booster Club:
We still need stuff and help for the Team Dinner at Finals. The sign-up
sheets are in the tower, please stop by and sign-up to help!!
This week's winning bonus payout is provided by A+ Bail Bonds, owner Tom
Loos, and NWDRA
is continuing to provide the Runner-up Bonus Payout.
Final 2013 points are now posted. Congrats to all of our
2013 Portland International Raceway track champions!

If you haven’t yet made your reservations at the Best Western Pepper Tree, best do so as soon
as possible before all rooms are booked (no king beds left at this point). Call them at 509-624-4655.
If you have any questions or need to get a hold of Lettie, her number is 503-644-5707.
This weeks Booster Club message:
Couple of things. First and foremost, some good news! The points
adjustment / throw away race will NOT be a part of the 2014 points system!
There will also likely be some tweaks made to the bogey / #1 qualifier system
for next season as well. More on that later. Along the lines of #1qualifiers,
I have added that info to the Jr. Dragster weekly results – my apologies for not
including that info earlier in the season.
The official Team Race competitor info is posted on the Division 6 website – in
Word format. For those without Word, I have converted the file to a pdf format.
Click here for the file. Don’t forget there is a Team Race meeting next
Update from the Booster Club:
There will be sign-up sheets in the tower for the Team dinner at the
Team Race. Please go to the 2nd floor of the tower and sign-up on what
you can bring, coolers, tables, salad, etc.
This week’s message from Ken Green
and the Booster Club:
This weeks winner sponsor is Dietrich Trucking, owner Richard & Dawn
Dietrich. NWDRA will still sponsor the runner-up.
The 3rd Baxter Auto Parts $50 Gift card we will start raffling this
week. The drawing will be later this season, after points are over.
This week it would be good to know one of the traction compounds that are
used on the track. There are a couple of different names, although one
has not been made for several years. Any of the names, former or
current, will get the bonus tickets.
Just to clarify a few things, points end August 14th for ALL classes (including Jr.).
Juniors DO race on the 14th. When I posted the schedule at the beginning of the year,
I went by the info on the official schedule (which is posted here in pdf format in the
schedule section) which may not have been clear regarding the points ending date
for Juniors. My apologies for any confusion.
If you have any questions regarding the weekly Booster Club message posted here,
please see Ken Green. With the exception of adding the links, everything in the
white box is always a copy and paste from what Ken sends me – I don’t write it.
And lastly for now, the points adjustment has been made. As you may have gathered, I’m
not a supporter of the points adjustment “throw away” race concept. In my opinion it
penalizes those of us who are loyal PIR racers who make the effort to show up every week.
And that just doesn’t seem right. If you would like to see the adjustment dropped next
season, please let Pete know your thoughts.
From Ken Green and the Booster Club:
This weeks Winner Bonus Payout sponsor is A+ Bail Bonds, Owner Tom Loos.
More sponsors are needed for the winner Bonus Payout. If you know a
company, or want to be a sponsor, see Lettie.
Do not forget the Team Meeting this Wednesday, right before the 1st
round of eliminations. Everyone interested in racing for the team needs
This is the last week of selling raffle tickets for the 2nd
Baxter Auto Parts $50.00 gift card. We will be drawing the winner this
Wednesday, so do not forget to buy tickets. If you do not have any tickets,
you have no chance of winning!!!
Be sure and complete your Tech Card. Completing your tech card is
required before you race, and knowing you complete a Tech Card will get
you your extra raffle tickets.
If interested in being a Winner Bonus Payout sponsor, talk to Lettie. Also, the North West Drag Racing Association is weekly sponsoring the Runner-Up Bonus Payout instead of the Payday-in-the-Park race.
Do not forget about the second-chance race if you lose the first round, affectionately called Lettie's Losers. You made the trip to the track, might as well race as much as possible. Most money is paid out to the winner/runner-up, the remains goes to the Booster Club and is used for the Team Race entry fees, Team picnic and Track Banquet
If you want to help with the Team Race Decorations, now is the time to go to the dollar stores and pick-up some Patriot themed supplies. Banners, streamers, etc. will be used to decorate the stands at the team race. The Patriots Colors are Red/White/Blue
The Booster Club is still looking for assistance with the 50-50 ticket sales. Talk to Lettie or Ken. Don't forget to get your 'Tech Inspection' before each race, that is the special word for next Wednesday.
This week the winner bonus payout sponsor is Electro Pac, owned by Mike Francis, and the sponsor of the runner-up bonus payout is N.W.D.R.A (North West Drag Racing Association). The Booster club is still looking for help with the 50-50 sales. You will be able to meet all the drivers, and families and only require a couple of hours each week. The person needs to be available every Wednesday we race.
The memorial will be held for Kyle on April 13th at 10:30AM at Crossroads Community Church (7708 NE 78th St Vancouver, WA 98662). Please spread the word, and our request for bright clothing and/or dress as your favorite superhero or star wars character. Thank you.
