VIN STAMPING LOCATION
Just below the
cylinder head on the left (drivers) side of the block is a raised pad where the
VIN is stamped. This raised pad is located just below the cylinder head casting
letter or number (E as shown here). The bracket that runs between the exhaust
manifold and power steering (if equipped) obstructs the view somewhat so you
really have to look hard to see it. The first number stamped will be a 3 which
denotes Oldsmobile, the second number indicates the model year of the block,
the next letter indicates the assembly plant and the final six numbers are what
will match your VIN if it is the original block.
